Prof. Harriet Mayanja-Kizzais a physician and researcher at Makerere University College of Health Sciences in Kampala, Uganda where she has worked for over 20 years. She was Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine for 8 years, till 2009, and then Dean of the School of Medicine at Makerere University for 5 years till February 2015. She is a lecturer in Internal Medicine and immunology, and has been an external examiner at various universities in Africa. She has supervised over 25 postgraduate training students.
Her research interests are mainly in the areas of infectious diseases and immunology, and include tuberculosis immuno-pathogenesis, tuberculosis clinical trials, tuberculosis and HIV co-infection pathogenesis and diagnosis, and malaria immuno-epidemiology.
She has served on various professional and advisory committees on medical education and infectious disease research, as well as academic administration, including serving as former member of the Makerere University Council, and the Makerere University Senate.
